Pastors

Pastor Tom Groelsema

Tom grew up in a Christian home in Wyoming, Michigan, the last of seven children. Knowing Christ all his life, Tom professed his faith in Christ at age 16. After high school, Tom studied at Calvin College and later went on to study at Westminster Seminary in California. While living in California, Tom met Sheri and they married in 1990.

One year later, Tom graduated from Westminster and spent one additional year studying at Calvin Seminary. Tom's calling to the ministry developed in stages. While in college, he sensed God calling him to serve the church. He pursued that calling by studying in seminary, and, eventually, God confirmed this call by leading him to serve at Bunde Christian Reformed Church in Clara City, Minnesota.

After five and a half years of service in Bunde, God called him to serve at 1st Byron Center Christian Reformed Church. He's served 1st Byron since 1998. As Senior Pastor, Tom's responsibilities lie in the area of preaching, teaching, and leadership. Tom and Sheri have been blessed with four children--one son and three daughters.

Pastor Adam Eisenga

I was born and raised in a Christian family in Hudsonville, Michigan.  While studying at Hope College (Holland, MI), I began ministering to youth and young adults.  After college, I spent a year studying in an intentional Christian living community in Maryland called The Trinity Forum.  These theological studies led me to study at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary after which I studied at Calvin Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, MI.

I am honored to be ministering to God’s people.  My call to ministry developed through an interest in theology and a desire to see lives transformed by God’s Word.  God has been teaching me many lessons through His church, and I look forward to being conformed more to His character through the ministry.
As Pastor of Family Discipleship, I work with the youth, youth adults, and various educational ministries of the church.

Pastor Ken VandeGriend

I am a graduate of Dordt College (Sioux Center, IA) and Calvin Theological Seminary (Grand Rapids, Michigan). Upon graduation from Calvin Seminary, my wife, Wanda, and I accepted a position with Christian Reformed World Missions as a missionary to Taiwan, serving there for six years in the capacity of church planting. In 1974 I was called to pastor the Christian Reformed Church in Askley, IA, and before retiring from the full time pastorate in 2007, I served four other churches in Cedar Rapids IA, Grand Rapids, MI, Willmar, MN, and Waupun WI. During these years, I worked for several years as the Director for SE Asia for The Bible League. While in Waupun, I became involved with Leadership Resources International (Palos Heights, IL). In this capacity, I continue to travel periodically to Asia to train pastors in preaching and Bible interpretation.

I have been part of the ministry staff of First Byron CRC since July 2007 as Pastor of Congregational Life. My ministry here includes teaching, pastoring and preaching, and, I pray, serving as a link to the global church, bringing the global church’s needs to the people of First Byron CRC.
My wife and I have three children and they are all married to Christian spouses and walk with the Lord. We have eleven grandchildren. God has blessed us richly and given us a rich heritage.
